Flying to Dalaman: UK Flights, Entry Rules and Transfers to Kalkan & Fethiye
Last updated: August 2026 · By the Villaciniz team
Dalaman (DLM) is the gateway airport for the whole western Turquoise Coast — Fethiye and Ölüdeniz are under an hour away, Kalkan about 1 hour 45 minutes, Kaş a scenic bit beyond. Flights from London take around four hours, UK passport holders currently need no visa for holidays, and in summer 2026 you can fly direct from more than a dozen UK airports. This guide — which we keep updated for our arriving guests — covers who flies, what the journey really costs, and how to land smoothly.
Which Airlines Fly Direct from the UK?
In the summer 2026 season, direct UK–Dalaman routes are operated by:
-
easyJet — Gatwick, Luton, Southend, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast.
-
Jet2 — Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, East Midlands, Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast.
-
TUI — Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Bournemouth, Norwich, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Belfast, among others.
-
British Airways — Gatwick, plus a newer Heathrow service running several times a week.
-
Ryanair — Stansted, a new route for 2026.
-
SunExpress and Wizz Air also serve selected UK airports seasonally.
In short: wherever you live in the UK, there is almost certainly a direct summer flight. Routes and days change each season, so check the airlines' current schedules for your dates.
Flight time: about 4 hours to 4 hours 15 minutes from London; 4 and a half hours or so from Scotland and Northern Ireland. Turkey is two hours ahead of the UK in summer (GMT+3).
Season: UK routes run roughly from late April to the end of October, mirroring the villa season. Direct winter flights are scarce — off-season travellers usually connect via Istanbul, or fly into Antalya.
Entry Requirements for UK Travellers (2026)
As of August 2026, per the UK government's travel advice for Turkey:
-
No visa is needed for tourist stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
-
Your passport must be valid for at least 150 days from the day you arrive, with a blank page for stamps.
That 150-day rule is the one that catches people at check-in — it is stricter than most European destinations, so check your expiry date the day you book, not the week you fly. Rules can change; give the gov.uk page a final glance before travel.
Landing at Dalaman
Dalaman's modern international terminal is a straightforward arrival: passport control, bags, and a duty-free shop conveniently placed in the baggage hall (prices are reasonable — many guests pick up their villa supplies there). Cash machines, currency desks and car-hire counters sit landside. From kerb to car rarely takes more than 40 minutes after touchdown.
Two money tips from years of guest arrivals: don't buy lira in the UK (rates are poor), and if a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in pounds, always choose lira — "dynamic currency conversion" quietly costs 5–10%.

Prices are typical summer-2026 rates for a saloon car; minivans for larger groups cost a little more, and returns are usually discounted. All quoted firms' cars are air-conditioned, and reputable companies track your flight and include waiting time, so a delay costs you nothing.
Fethiye also has budget options: the airport shuttle bus to Fethiye bus station runs a handful of times a day for a few pounds, and taxis from the rank are metered. Both are workable for town stays; neither is door-to-door.
Kalkan and Kaş have no direct public transport from the airport — you would have to change buses in Fethiye and add two hours. With bags, children or an evening arrival, a pre-booked private transfer is the sane choice, and it is what we arrange for our guests as standard: driver at arrivals with your name, straight to the villa. Book yours when you book the villa, and if you are travelling with young children, request the exact car seats you need by age and weight — reputable firms provide them free (see our family guide).
Transfer or Hire Car?
For Kalkan-based weeks, a car is optional: the town is walkable, taxis are cheap, and boat trips leave from the harbour — many guests take a transfer and hire a car locally for just a day or two of exploring. For Fethiye-area villas in the hills (Ovacık, Kayaköy, Üzümlü), a car earns its keep if you like roaming; the dolmuş network covers the basics otherwise.
Airport hire runs from roughly £25–40 per day for an economy car in summer. Turkey drives on the right, the D400 coast road is excellent and scenic, and fuel is straightforward. If you plan to drive, book ahead for August.
Should You Ever Fly to Antalya Instead?
For Kalkan and Kaş, Antalya (AYT) looks tempting when its fares are lower — but it sits about 210 km / 3 hours-plus from Kalkan, versus Dalaman's 1h45, and private transfers cost significantly more. In summer, the cheaper ticket almost never survives the transfer arithmetic. Antalya earns its place mainly in winter, when its year-round flight schedule keeps the region reachable after Dalaman's UK routes pause.
Practical Tips Before You Fly
-
Phones: Turkey is outside every UK network's inclusive EU-roaming zone, and daily roaming passes add up fast. A Turkey or regional eSIM installed before you fly costs a fraction of it.
-
Evening arrivals: many UK flights land between 9pm and 2am. Pre-book the transfer, send us your flight number, and we will have the villa ready for a late check-in — it is completely normal here.
-
Allow door-to-door time: landing to Kalkan villa is realistically about 2.5 hours including bags; Fethiye more like 1.5.
-
Book August transfers early along with car seats — peak-week vehicle supply is finite.
Your Arrival, Step by Step
For first-timers, here is exactly how a Dalaman arrival runs:
-
Passport control — staffed booths rather than e-gates for UK passports; the queue moves quickly outside the busiest midnight arrivals wave.
-
Baggage hall — grab a trolley, and note the duty-free shop inside the hall: this is the moment to buy anything you want waiting at the villa.
-
Landside — ATMs on your right for lira (withdraw in lira, decline the conversion offer), SIM counters if you skipped the eSIM.
-
Meet your driver — pre-booked transfer drivers wait at arrivals with a name board; ours will have cold water in the car and can stop at a supermarket en route to the villa if you ask when booking.
-
Villa check-in — key handover is arranged around your landing time, however late.
One booking-timing note: airlines load the following summer's Dalaman schedules from the preceding autumn, and the school-holiday weeks sell strongest — if you are tied to those dates, book flights as soon as your villa is confirmed rather than waiting for sales.

Do UK citizens need a visa for Turkey?
No — tourist visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period are visa-free for UK passport holders. Your passport must be valid for at least 150 days from your arrival date (gov.uk, checked August 2026).
How far is Kalkan from Dalaman Airport?
About 120–130 km — 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours by road. A private transfer costs roughly £75–95 per car each way in summer 2026.
What is the best way to get from Dalaman to my villa?
A pre-booked private transfer: door-to-door, flight-tracked, child seats on request. For Fethiye town only, the airport shuttle or a metered taxi are workable budget options; Kalkan and Kaş have no practical public-transport route.
Is it worth hiring a car for a Kalkan holiday?
Not essential — town, beach clubs and boat trips need no car. Hire one for a day or two if you want Patara, Saklıkent and the villages at your own pace; see things to do in Kalkan.
